2007 Folk Life Festival, June 7-10, 2007

The Texas Wendish Heritage Society participated in the 36th Annual Texas Folklife Festival during Jun 8-10 on the grounds of the Institute of Texan Cultures in San Antonio.  This annual event brings together groups that represent many different cultures and ethnic groups in Texas for 3 days of performances, great food, displays, and arts and crafts available for purchase.

Membership Update

The Texas Wendish Heritage Society achieved a record membership for the fifth year in a row, with 931 members. We added 92 first-time members. So far for 2007, we are on track to set a new record, and we have added 6 life members, bringing our total to 26. We have members in 7 countries (U.S., Canada, Germany, Australia, United Kingdom, Spain and Switzerland) and 36 states. Eighteen percent of our members live outside of Texas. States not represented in our membership include Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Rhode Island, and West Virginia. Whether you live in one of these states or not, if you are of Wendish descent or know of someone who is and you or that someone is not currently a member, we hope you will join our organization and help support our efforts to preserve the Wendish heritage here in the U.S.
